This retro alarm clock is an authentic reproduction, down to the small details of the 1949 Style 6 original, with two modern improvements: a quartz analog movement that keeps time with a AA battery (not included), so you don't have to remember to wind the clock every night, and a pleasant crescendo beep alarm. The satin cream metal case with brass trim and ivory white vintaged dial with dark brown hand and numerals make for a handsome clock that will complement a retro decor in the bedroom, study, or office. The luminous hands make for easy night-time viewing. The clock also features a separate alarm indicator on the dial, a second hand, and separate time and alarm setting knobs in the back. Dimensions: Width: 5-1/4 inches, Height: 5-1/2 inches, Depth: 2-3/4 inches, Dial is 4 inches diameter.

Summary: Big Ben 1949 quartz alarm clock 2010-07-10
Comment: I bought this clock even after reading the so-so reviews here because I like the looks of it. So far it is keeping perfect time and the alarm goes off as set. It looks lovely on the bedside table which was important to me. I'm glad I got it in ivory, it really is attractive. The knobs on the back are long enough for easy setting and hitting the alarm off button in the morning is easy. I didn't mind having to use a screwdriver to open the back to insert the battery. The alarm is loud enough to wake me, a heavy sleeper but can be jolting for you sensitive types. :-)
Typical of phosphorescent or luminescent dials, it will glow for a while after lights are out but will fade long before morning. I thought this clock was worth the $21.95 but not the $34.50 that you'll see it for in one of those yuppie catalogs.

Comment: I'm dissapointed with the clocks hands loosing their light charge during the night. One of the main reasons I purchased this item. The style is nice the size too - there is a faint ticking so if you want a silent clock that the hands on the dial light up this is not for you.
