Summary: Poor sound at low volume/ Sony is replacing 2010-08-26
Comment: Negative: When playing cd's at a volume low enough to sleep by, sound echoes, like treble needs to be adjusted (but there is no adjustment for it).
Lots of buttons- no problem once you learn where and what each one is. There is a lot of functionality on unit.

Positive: Love the 3 lights (brightest blue is very relaxing)
CD features to play once, continuously or shuffle (mode button) + unit can be set to play any form of music for a designated period of time (sleep button)- very nice.
Sound quality is great at higher volumes (over 4,5).
Radio reception is pretty good, but I taped the short antenna up to my headboard.
Sleek design- nice to look at.
Clock is set from the second it plugs in and automatically changes with daylight savings time.

Sony is going to replace the unit with a refurbished one since I did not contact them until after the 30 day mark (had the unit for about 70 days). Sony Customer service was efficient. I am anxious to see if a replacement performs better.

Comment: Great little clock/radio. I do not hear too well and the alarm buzzer is alittle weak for me.

Summary: no power...no problem ! 2010-08-11
Comment: I always do my homework (extended research) before buying the newest and latest electronics. SONY tech support advised me that this product's first distribution was in July 2007. This product has exceeded my expectations. Today it received the ultimate test when we lost power in our area for over 3 hours. After power was restored this product restored itself without missing one second of time! The backup battery performed brilliantly and didn't show " weak battery" in the display after restoration. Having the option to play your private personalized CD to whatever your heart desires for napping or waking up is truly a blessing. Thank you, SONY...you get it!!!!!

Summary: Not up to SONY's standards 2010-07-30
Comment: Ordered this clock radio last year; it arrived on October 12, 2009, and we put it in service immediately. It has loads of great features --- auto time set works perfectly after power outages (we had three or four), sound is plenty good for a clock radio, reception is as good as we get in our location (a poor reception area).

But we used it mostly for playing a CD while we went to sleep at night, then replaying it from the beginning to wake us in the morning. The dual alarm option is useful; one for weekdays, one for weekends (or however you choose to use them). Its performance was quite satisfactory for about five months.

Then it began to refuse to play CDs. It turns out that if you don't insert the CD exactly right --- which is to say, perfectly level on the spindle and very gently --- it won't play. It signals this by emitting a very annoying clicking noise, but at least that tells you something is wrong. Removing and re-inserting the CD worked, maybe not the first or second time, but almost always on the third try.

At about the same time some of our commercial CDs that play fine on all our other CD players began to elicit the no-play click response from the ICF-CD7000BLK whenever they were tried, no matter how carefully they were inserted. Turns out that if a CD is produced with the hole every so slightly off-center, the SONY may reject it. Finally, yesterday, it began rejecting all CDs, commercial or not, either immediately or after playing for a few minutes --- with the same clicking sound.

We can still use it for a clock radio and for an iPod player, but the CD mechanism definitely suffers from design flaws. This may be caused by the fact that the CD is supported only by the center spindle in this particular design, allowing the CD to tilt --- we have no idea what the problem really is. And in the case of a relatively inexpensive electronic device, it's not worth the time and expense of having it repaired, even if it could be repaired.

If you purchase this clock radio, it may serve you well for many years, or it may fail in a few months. We cannot say; we have no statistics for making predictions. We have already replaced it (with another SONY, because we could find nothing else with better reviews), and if the new one works out well, we'll let you know. In our opinion, this sort of electronic device should last for at least five years, preferably ten, so if you don't hear from us soon, it may be because we found a CD Clock Radio that is far more satisfactory. The new one is the inexpensive SONY ICF-CD815 FM/AM CD Clock Radio.

Comment: Seriously I looked and read and read and reviewed and then I bought this. Here it is, its perfect, easy awesome, lovely, CD alarm clock radio all in one. My table next to our bed is happy, so am I. What more can I say? I live in the ountains and get fine reception.
