Though this is a plug-in model, it also has a battery back-up. That means that if the power is interrupted, or if the clock is unplugged, it will be on the right time. My only concern is the brightness of the display - it is near a bright-light window and the display is a bit weak to be seen properly in the daytime. It looks fine at night - not too distracting.
