This product is all you can expect out of a rain gauge and so much more! I was looking for a decent priced rain gauge, but didn't want one of those pesky "wireless" kinds that usually either receive severe interference, or doesn't work half the time due to battery damage. This product eliminates the need for wireless. I found it more to my advantage being as it displays itself on a nice size LCD screen. This product only takes one battery, which is like terrific. I recommend using only name brand with this product. It was very easy to install, and even allowed you to mount it to a surface of your choose. I choose my patio siding fence. You just mount the bottom with 2 screws, then you insert your battery in the machine, screw it in, then your ready to go.

We have a much more expensive one that has two separate components...one for outside and one inside that actually reads the amount of rainfall. It worked well for a year, we had to change batteries often, sometimes it would work, other times, not. I read a review of this new gauge and decided to order it. It is perfect. We have it outside the back door and can read it quite easily. We have very strong winds and it has not blown away. Ironically, we left the old one in place and it has been working ever since we put the new one out. They both measure the same amount of rainfall. I still prefer the new one. This is one of those times that expensive is not always better.

We installed this on the back patio railing, and it started raining. It has rained every day since. If you need rain, buy this product. But seriously, it does have an easy to read display. It records 24 hour, 7 day and total rainfall amounts. I bought it to tell me if it rained during my absence, so I would know if I should water my plants.
However, after a short time(battery changes and physical abuse), this rain gauge only works when it feels like it. Sometimes it will record a heavy downpour and other times there is nothing. I am going back to the old kind of rain gauge. Rain falls into the plastic tube, you read it, and then you dump it out. Apparently technology and rain just don't mix.
