At 2 AM Monday morning, our power went out as a tornado was bearing down on us in a small East Texas town. I have a surplus of batteries for just such an occasion, so I began plugging them into the unit and it instantly came to life. I could listen to WBAP clearly and got instant up to the minute weather information. The NOAA weather radio option is easy to use. I dialed it in using the knob on the back and had instant tornado data. After the threat was over and the tornado died, we turned it over to a country station and listened to music until we fell asleep. This is one of the best radios I have ever owned. It's small, portable and lightweight. I love it and I am so glad that I purchased it. It's a great emergency radio and should be a part of any emergency kit. It's low cost and runs for a long time on 4 batteries. I will keep mine around. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By jimrno (Sparks NV) - See all my reviews This review is from: Emerson RP6251 Portable Weather Clock Radio (Electronics) Just bought this from overstock.com (paid more than here) Radio has 5 star rating on overstock.com. Can't beat it for the price 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By advid reader "reading keeps the mind young" (East coast-U.S.A.) - See all my reviews This review is from: Emerson RP6251 Portable Weather Clock Radio (Electronics) The radio works well; tunes into all of the stations that my car does. The NOAA weather forecast begins with the push of the weather button & it's loud & clear. I like that it takes AA batteries - not C or D like some of the other brands. There is a possibility of a hurricane "Rina" this weekend and that was the reason for the purchase. The only drawback is that there is not a siren that sounds in an emergency. I need to consider if I will keep this particular model or go with an emergency alert siren type radio with NOAA broadcasts. I highly recommend for anyone who wants a radio and NOAA stations without an alert siren. |
