Denon S-32 Internet Radio with Built-in Speakers and 2-Alarm Clock

Comment: This device is not quite as advertised. Perhaps, I was mistaken when I read the information advertising it, but I thought it would be compatable with my iPhone and I was disappointed that it would in no way support that device. Internet radio is also a bit of a disappointment. Otherwise it is a good radio with decent sound and I guess the clock radio works well too. It just doesn't quite meet my expectations.

Comment: After reading some of the lengthy, generally unfavorable reviews of the Denon S-32 wi-fi radio, I was hesitant to order it. But with Amazon's easy to use, and very fair return policy, plus the high quality of other Denon products that I know of first hand, I decided to send for it. And I am extremely happy that I did. Setup instructions were fairly easy to follow, and in less than 10 minutes I was listening to my favorite classical music station broadcasting from Switzerland. Contrary to what some reviewers have written, setting it up was not that difficult. As for performance, I have the radio in a room that's situated approx. 75 feet from my wireless router room. Six double-sided sheetrock walls separate the rooms. Without having to add a signal booster or expander, the signal has been 100% right from the start. A most pleasant surprise, because a different, fairly expensive brand of wireless radio that I tried would not pick up a signal at all. The sound is rich and clear, even at very low volume. I don't have an i-Pod, so can't comment on that. Would expect that function will work great as well though. Without hesitation, I would buy this radio again.

Comment: After spending five hours trying to connect the unit to a wireless network (Apple Extreme) I gave up and shipped it back. The interface is intuitive and easy to follow. I would get a message that the Connection was Successful and shortly thereafter it would display no network connection. Perhaps it was the Apple Extreme that caused the problem. Before deciding to send the unit back I did hookup the FM antenna to test the sound quality. I thought it was marginal at best and not significantly better than my existing kitchen solution a Sony countertop that cost around $50.

I have hooked up a Pioneer Elite SC-05 to a network and received internet radio in a painless manner - far less than my five hour investment in trying to get the Denon S-32 connected. I am not a network guru so perhaps it is me, but for my money I think you could get better sound from another unit.

My main reason for getting this unit was the internet radio which would broaden the listening choices I have in the rural community that I live in. I think now I'll just run another set of speakers from the Pioneer until another easy to use unit becomes available.

The unit wasn't too big and I thought it looked sleek. I was disappointed to see it go.

Comment: Set up was very easy but the sound is awful -like a cheap bass heavy boom box. The selection of stations is pitiful - No BBC or RAI -no Sirius or XM -the unit can only handle limited formats-not a good value and Denon should know better

Comment: Great product! Not sure of it is worth $500.00, but we got a great deal on Amazon for a brand new unit.
Had it up and running quick and have been enjoying it for 3 days now. Close to 15,000 stations available once you connect your Radio to "[...]". Easy to create favorites from that website that link automatically to your S-32. Easily lets you play Music from your PC/Laptop (of course they need to be turned on...)

Sound quality of the build in speaker is good, but a sub woofer and some external speakers will probably make it sound even better.

I would recommend this unit to anyone.
