Amazon.com Review
Add a little fun to the bedroom with this retro Moonbeam alarm clock from Big Ben. Modeled after the popular 1950's "Considerate Alarm," the electric clock aims to wake sleepers gradually with a blinking light. The light grows brighter over a 4-minute period before a bell-style alarm rings to rouse heavier sleepers. The clock also comes equipped with a snooze function. To illuminate the clock, a 25-watt replaceable light bulb is included. Styled after Big Ben, this analog clock sports brown Arabic numerals and gold clock hands. The dial illuminates in the dark for easy reading. A 58-inch cord allows flexibility in placement. The clock also features a battery back up in the event of a power outage--requiring the separate purchase of two AA batteries. For best results, use this clock in dark rooms with little morning light. The clock measures 5 by 6-1/2 by 2 inches. --Jessica Reuling

Summary: Love The Moonbeam Clock 2010-02-20
Comment: I have had this Moonbeam clock for over 10 years and absolutely love it. It works just as advertised, the light wakes me up 99% of the time and on the rare occasion the alarm bell goes off it does the job too. I don't know why there are so many complaints about this clock as I would buy another one for another room. I love that it comes in so many nice colors. I give this clock a high rating.

Summary: Jagged Edge 2009-11-25
Comment: I had the same "jagged edge" problem as another reviewer - instead of a perfect circle you get this cheap and crappy looking piece of gray paper jutting in from one side. It's a shame, because the design idea is beautiful.

Summary: Nice Retro But Some Problems 2009-06-28
Comment: Here's yet another example of a cheap retro copy not living up to the original. The Moonbeam is a very good replica of the 1950 version, minus the weight and the luminous hands. Instead, the Moonbeam uses a constantly lighted dial, which takes some getting used to if you are going to put it on your nightstand, because it is bright, and there is no dimmer (which there should be). The flashing alarm does indeed wake you, the alarm sound is a bit harsh, and the alarm setting accuracy leaves something to be desired -- that is, if you want up at 7:00 you will likely have to set the alarm for about 6:45. This seems to be a constant criticism. I still think it is preferable to an original Moonbeam with 60 year-old workings. And remember, the hands won't show up well in the dark because the luminious paint has usually long faded to no-glow status. More of a conversation piece than a great timepiece, the Moonbeam repro has the common flaws of cheap production, so keep your clock radio set for 10 minutes later if you really have to catch a plane -- just in case.

Summary: sloppy workmanship 2009-02-25
Comment: Unfortunately,I was attracted by the retro design, like many others, until I plugged it in-between the 2 O'Clock and 4 O'Clock positions, there is a jagged, grey "edge" that distracts from the rest of the clock face-and a bright pinpoint light that pierces thru at 3 O'Clock. A defct for sure, but I have tried 2 and both have the same problem, so I think it is a mfr's defect(China) It is very annoying;instead of a consistent mellow clockface, you see the obvious greyish, jagged area so the entire face is not visually a perfect circle.Like someone took scissors and mistakenly cut it wrong. Cheap imitation of the real mcCoy back in the 50's.

Summary: outstanding customer service 2009-02-03
Comment: this clock didn't work and so I boxed it up and sent it to the warranty center.
however I didn't hear from them for over a month. But I did hear from the seller, who promised to send me another clock...and he did, right away too!
how's that for customer service!
