The clock is big and has a loud ringer-just what I needed for waking me up on my flyfishing skiff during overnight trips into the Everglades. However, the clock had a defect: the tip of the second hand was turned down just enough to catch on the minute hand. The clock would stop. Once I noticed what was wrong, I opened the case up and gently straightened the second hand to eliminate interference with the minute hand. Works fine now, but this problem may occur on other clocks. If yours stops running, check to see if this is the problem. A small phillips head screwdriver to take off the 3 bolts (2 in the base) is all that's needed. Mind the nuts inside the case and do the operation on a clean table so you won't loose any of the parts.

Awkward Clock!,

Although this clock does tick rather loudly which is a feature I like (ergo, the 3 stars), the winding and setting is beyond awkward. First of all the knob to set the clock is directly above the key to wind it and you take the skin off your fingers if you're not very careful when doing so. Also, the winding is very stiff and difficult to the point that I have to have my husband wind the clock every night and even he says that this clock is cheaply made and why does it wind counter clockwise.
At any rate, I would not recommend this to anyone who has even mild arthritis in their hands or even to someone who just doesn't want to have to do battle in order to set and wind their clock at night.
