If you're looking for an electric analog alarm clock you already know that there are very few in the market to choose from. You must avoid any that have a battery because, while you think the battery is for back-up, it isn't; the battery runs the clock, the plug-in runs the light (unless they otherwise note and I haven't found that).
So, I bought four different clocks through Amazon.
The Advance Electric, the Equity and the Westclox all light the dial by a small bulb near one of the numbers on the dial, either the 4 or the 9. Of these, the Westclox is the least obtrusive. The problem for me was the relative brightness of the bulb. It's not glaring on any of them, but it is bright in a dark room.
Only the Chaney back-lighted the entire dial and the diffusion of light that way was more subtle and restful. The Chaney has a smaller area devoted to the clock face numbers. Depends on how myopic you are as to whether that's a problem. The trade off is a little...Read more

This Advance Black Electric Alarm Clock is much less than expected or hoped for. The alarm is a very soft beep that would be far less than adequate for many sound sleepers. This is certainly not the kind of loud gangling or buzzer sounds that electric alarm clocks are typically known for. The container states that the hour and minute hands are luminous: NOT! Whatever phosporesent substance might have been applied is completely degraded and non-responsive, even to direct flouresent light for 10 continuous minutes. The alarm setting hand is poorly calibrated to the actual alarm and must be set at least 10-20 minutes before the desired time for the alarm to sound when hoped for. The power cord is attached to the back of the clock just beneath the setting dial-button for the alarm, making it very awkward and uncomfortable to set the alarm without turning the clock upside down so that the cord falls away from the button. This clock ticks. It's an electric alarm clock to sit on the nightstand but it ticks annoyingly with the seconds hand. Why? Unless you like that. Another con is that the time and alarm adjustment knobs are not just an odd shape but also can move very easily when reaching / grasping the clock to hit the snooze button--and moving the alarm setting.
Otherwise, the styling is good. The lighted dial is bright and, with a black case, the whole clock doesn't glow unnecessarily. Prompt shipment and delivery.
